Traffic Cone Packaging Guide

When exporting traffic cones, there are two main packing methods commonly used by Chinese suppliers:

• woven bag packing

• Pallet packing

Both methods can be used for bulk export orders, but they serve slightly different purposes.

Woven bags are a simple and economical option, especially when keeping packaging costs and container volume as low as possible is the priority.

Pallet packing provides better support and organization during transportation. For PVC traffic cones, we generally recommend pallet packing because it helps reduce the risk of deformation and keeps the cones in better condition when they arrive.

The right packing method also depends on the cone size, base dimensions, order quantity and container type.

And when using pallets, there is one detail that is often overlooked:

The number of cones on each pallet is not fixed.

It can change depending on the cone size, base size and available container height.

1. Woven Bag Packing

woven bags are one of the most common ways to pack traffic cones for export.

The cones are stacked together and packed into woven bags, usually according to the cone size and the supplier's loading method.

Why choose woven bags?

• Lower packaging cost

• Simple packing process

• Less packaging material

• Good use of container space

• Suitable for large-volume orders

For customers who are mainly concerned about unit cost and container utilization, woven bags can be a practical choice.

However, the cones receive less structural support than pallet-packed products.

For flexible PVC cones, this can increase the risk of deformation when the products are tightly compressed or stacked for a long period.

2. Pallet Packing

For most of our export orders, pallet packing is our preferred option.

The cones are arranged on pallets and secured so that the stack remains stable during transportation.

Our typical pallet footprint is around:

1.1 × 1.1 meters

The exact pallet configuration depends on the product.

Why do we recommend pallets?

Pallet packing helps:

• Keep cones properly aligned

• Reduce excessive compression

• Reduce the risk of deformation

• Keep the products organized

• Make forklift handling easier

• Make loading and unloading easier

For a long-distance export shipment, we believe keeping the cones in good condition is more important than saving a small amount on packing.


3. Woven Bags or Pallets: Which Should You Choose?

If the main priority is the lowest possible packing cost, woven bags may be suitable.

If the priority is product condition, easier handling and better protection, we normally recommend pallets.

For PVC traffic cones in particular, pallet packing is usually our first choice.


4. Why Do We Ask Whether You Need a 20GP or 40HQ?

This is a question that sometimes surprises buyers.

But it is important.

A 20GP and a 40HQ have different internal heights.

For pallet-packed traffic cones, this means we may be able to use a different number of layers depending on the container.

The pallet footprint can remain around 1.1 × 1.1m, while the stacking height changes.

As a result, the number of cones per pallet can also change.

Here is a practical example.

70cm PVC Traffic Cone

Weight: 1.75kg

Pallet footprint: approximately 1.1 × 1.1m

The approximate pallet quantity can be:

The product is exactly the same.

The pallet footprint is also essentially the same.

The difference comes from the available vertical space, which allows a different stacking arrangement.

This is why we ask about the container type before confirming the final pallet quantity.

5.The Base Size Also Makes a Difference

The base is one of the first things we check when calculating pallet loading.

Two 70cm cones may have the same:

• Height

• Weight

• Material

but different base dimensions.

A larger base may provide better stability on the road, but it also occupies more pallet space.

That means fewer cones may fit on each layer.

So when comparing loading information from different suppliers, don't look only at:

70cm / 1.75kg

Also check the base dimensions.

Base Size Affects the Number of Cones per Layer

The base size is one of the most important factors when calculating how many traffic cones can be placed on a pallet.

For example, with one of our common pallet configurations:

• 18" traffic cones: approximately 16 pcs per layer

• 28" traffic cones: approximately 9 pcs per layer

• 36" traffic cones: approximately 9 pcs per layer

This is only the number of cones per layer.

The total quantity on one pallet also depends on how many layers can be safely stacked.

And this is where the container type becomes important.

A 20GP and a 40HQ have different internal heights, so the available vertical space can affect the number of layers we can use.

The basic calculation is:

Pieces per layer × Number of layers = Pieces per pallet

For example, if a particular 70cm cone can be arranged at 9 pieces per layer, the final pallet quantity will depend on how many layers can be safely stacked within the available container height.


6. Different Suppliers May Have Different Loading Quantities

There is another point that buyers should be aware of when comparing Chinese traffic cone suppliers.

The loading quantity is not necessarily the same from one factory to another.

Even when two suppliers offer the same nominal cone size, their actual:

  • Mold design

  • Base dimensions

  • Cone diameter

  • Wall thickness

  • Stacking shape

may be different.

As a result, the number of cones that fit on one layer can also be different.

For example, one manufacturer's 70cm cone may fit 9 pieces per layer, while another manufacturer's design may have a slightly different base and stacking arrangement.

Therefore, figures such as:

"504 pcs/pallet FOR 40HQ"


should be treated as product-specific loading information, rather than a universal standard for that cone size.


7. Packaging and Container Loading Are Connected

When we prepare a traffic cone export order, we don't look at packaging and loading separately.

We consider:

Product dimensions

Pallet arrangement

Pallet quantity

Number of pallets

Container loading

This is why the final loading quantity should ideally be confirmed after the actual product and packing configuration are determined.

8. What We Recommend

For most bulk PVC traffic cone orders, our first choice is:

Pallet packing

because it provides better support and helps reduce deformation during transportation.

However, if a customer has a very strict cost target or wants to maximize container utilization, woven bag packing can also be considered.

The decision should be based on the customer's actual logistics requirements.

We don't believe that the cheapest packing method is always the best one.

• Cone height

• Cone weight

• Base dimensions

• Woven bag or pallet

• Pallet size

• Pieces per layer

• Number of layers

• Pieces per pallet

• 20GP or 40HQ

• Number of pallets

• Total container quantity

• Protection against deformation


CONCLUSION

Traffic cone packaging mainly comes down to two choices:

Woven bags for a simple, economical packing solution.

Pallets for better organization, handling and protection.

For PVC traffic cones, we generally recommend pallet packing, particularly for long-distance export shipments where maintaining the shape of the cones is important.

But pallet packing is not simply:

"X pieces per pallet."

The actual quantity depends on the cone size, base dimensions, pallet arrangement and container height.

For example, the same 70cm PVC 1.75kg traffic cone can be approximately:

432 pcs/pallet in a 20GP

versus

504 pcs/pallet in a 40HQ.

So if your supplier asks:

"Are you shipping by 20GP or 40HQ?"

there is a practical reason behind the question.

The container type can directly affect the pallet stacking height, pieces per pallet and final loading quantity.
